The British court has for the first time found a citizen of the country guilty of “terrorist activity” in connection with his participation in the conflict in Donbass.

This was reported by BBC Ukraine, said the correspondent of Politnavigator.

“The court in Manchester sentenced the Brit Benjamin Stimson, who was involved in the fighting on the side of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, to five years and four months of imprisonment,” it is said in the statement.

The judge specified that he sentences Stimson to eight years of imprisonment, but subtracts a third of this term for recognition of guilt.

In addition, the judge decided that Stimson has no extreme views and doesn’t now constitute danger to the population of Britain.

Benjamin Stimson is 41 years old. He was born and grown up in the north of England. In the autumn of 2015 journalists of the BBC met him near Debaltsevo. In court Stimson denied his participation in fighting and said that he doesn’t consider himself as a “terrorist”. According to him, he spent four months in the east of Ukraine, working as an ambulance driver.

In Britain legislation is in effect whereby charges of terrorism can be brought to persons who return from countries where they were involved in armed conflicts.
