May 2nd should be a festive holiday, and not a day of mourning. This was stated on the air of “Radio Svoboda” by the Odessa artist and “Euromaidan” activist Aleksandr Roytburd.

According to him, the attitude of mourning towards this date plays into the hands of Russian propaganda, and actions such as hanging out flags on this day of mourning are unacceptable.

“It is not a day of mourning, it is a day of victory: Ukrainian patriots saved the city from big trouble,” stated Roytburd. According to him, both the central and local authorities at all levels should actively promote this thesis.

Aleksandr Roytburd stated that the burning and deaths of people in the Trade Unions Building were an accident: he compared these events, in particular, to the fire in the night club “Lame horse” in Perm, where careless handling of pyrotechnics resulted on December 5th, 2009, in a fire that claimed the lives of 111 people.

It is interesting that during the broadcast the artist several times contradicted himself: in one segment of the interview Aleksandr Roytburd stated that “Euromaidan protesters” on May 2nd prepared Molotov cocktails in advance to burn the tent town on Kulikovo Field, and only a few minutes later assured the host that at the same time the actions of “euromaidan protesters” had to be absolutely peaceful and shouldn’t involve any violent acts.
