In 2016 alone the population of Ukraine reduced by 175,974 people. This was confirmed by the data of the report published by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on Facebook.

So, as of January 1st, 2017, 42,584,542 people live in Ukraine (excluding the Crimean peninsula), whereas for the beginning of last year 42,760,516 people lived in the country.

It is noted that 29,482,313 people compose the urban population and 13,102,229 people the rural one.

The most densely populated area of the country remains Donetsk – 4,240,000 people live there.

In second place – the Dnepropetrovsk region with an indicator of 3,230,000 people. Further follow: Kharkov (2,700,000), Lvov (2,500,000), and Odessa (2,380,000).

In Kiev 2,925,760 people are officially registered.

Earlier “Strana” reported that the number of Ukrainians for this year alone was reduced by 83,000 people. It was also reported that in Kiev there are 8 men for every 10 women.
