Russia proposed to create four zones of decreased tension on the territory of Syria: the province of Idlib, to the North of the city of Homs, East Ghouta, and the south of the country, reported a source in the Syrian opposition to Ria Novosti.

“The Russian Federation suggests to create four zones of decreased tension in Syria: the province of Idlib, to the North of the city of Homs, East Ghouta, and the south of Syria,” it follows from the document received from the source.

“Lines of security are created (demarcation line) on all lengths of the borders of the zones of decreased tension in order to avoid direct contact between the parties of the Syrian crisis,” it is said in the text.

It is noted that on these lines the Russian Federation suggests to create checkpoints that “provide easy passage without weapons for civilians, and the delivery of humanitarian aid” and access to commerce. In addition to the checkpoints on the demarcation lines Moscow suggests to create “monitoring centers for the tracking of observance of the ceasefire regime“.

Also, according to the source, the proposal of Russia allows the sending of armed groups from guarantor states of the truce in order to control its observance. Currently such states are Russia, Iran, and Turkey. According to the interlocutor of RIA Novosti, Moscow suggested to create a working group of representatives of these countries. They must submit maps with the borders of zones of decreased tension “in the shortest possible time”.

Earlier, the member of the delegation of the armed opposition at the negotiations in Astana reported to RIA Novosti about the introduction of Russia proposed zones.
