Today in Ukraine 60% of the population live below the poverty line. This was reported by the permanent representative of the UN program of development in Ukraine Neal Walker during a presentation of the report of the UN development. The video of the briefing was posted by the UNN news agency on YouTube.

“As for Ukraine, in the report we speak about 1.7 million internally displaced persons, 2.8 million people with disabilities, 60% of the population that are living below the poverty line,” he said.

The director of the Institute for Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova explained what scheme was used to make the calculation.

“It concerns the fact that the national income per person has decreased in 25 years: in 2015 it decreased in comparison with 1990 by 31.9%,” she said.

Today the living wage in Ukraine is 1544 UAH a month ($1.84 a day). In 2015, the World Bank increased the poverty line to $1.9 a day.
