The chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios said that about 400,000 units of unaccounted weapons that arrived on the peaceful territory of the country from the combat zone in Donbass are “walking” around in Ukraine. He stated this in an interview to “theinsider.ua”.

“Over the past 4 years we have more than 40,000 enterprises for arms trafficking in the country. I don’t even know if there were so many weapons in circulation since World War II, but I doubt it. From where did these 40,000 machine guns, pistols, cartridges, grenades, and grenade launchers come from? This is just what was found by law enforcement bodies. And usually the statistics reflects only 10% of the weapons that ‘walk’ in the State. So here 400,000 unaccounted weapons are ‘walking’ outside of the law. It is for sure that these weapons are from the ATO,” he explained.

According to Matios, in 2014-2015 there were heavy battles, and there are instances of losses of arms in combat conditions.

“There is such a number of losses, such a number of damaged weapons. No one takes a photo of the damaged weapons or attaches them to reports. Besides PTSD, everyone who went to the ATO zone or helped in it also brought back some trophy from there – whether it is a cartridge or a grenade launcher. I’m not joking. And all of this ‘walks’ in peaceful life,” stressed the chief military prosecutor.
