About 500 Ukrainians Who Fought in Donbass Committed Suicide

In Ukraine about 500 cases of combatants in Donbass committing suicide were recorded, the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov reported.

“According to military prosecutor’s office, for the beginning of June, 2017, about 500 cases of participants of the anti-terrorist operation committing suicide after returning home from the combat zone were registered,” said the Interior Minister in a “Ukrainian Truth” article entitled “The strategy of hybrid peace”.

Avakov recalled the conventional international standard for military conflicts: 90-95% of combatants subsequently have medical (related to the nervous system) and social problems, and approximately a third is diagnosed with post-traumatic syndrome, as a result of which quite often there are suicides.

He also specified that in 2015 the number of appeals of relatives of combatants in Donbass with complaints about domestic violence grew eightfold.

At the same time earlier the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine stated that in three years of the conflict in Donbass 2,700 Ukrainian military servicemen perished [this figure is a blatant lie, the true number is at least triple this figure – ed].
