Kiev’s closure of the North Crimean Canal hasn’t significantly affected the Russian peninsula, but has led to a lack of water in Ukraine, reported the head of the department of agricultural meteorology of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Tatyana Adamenko.
For about three years in Ukraine there has been a problem with water, which arose because of the water blockade of Crimea by the Ukrainian authorities. According to the representative of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Tatyana Adamenko, the amount of precipitation in recent years can’t restore the water balance – the rivers have dried up, wells became empty, the situation is saved a little only by reservoirs.
The greatest damage from the actions of the Ukrainian government happened in the Kherson and Nikolaev regions – there are serious problems with the irrigation of farmlands. The closure of the North Crimean Canal has strongly affected agricultural complexes.
