The Ecumenical patriarchate has elected exarchs for granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kiev Patriarchate): priests from the USA and Canada will become such exarchs. This was reported on September 7th on the official Facebook page of the Ecumenical patriarchate.
Earlier the head of the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate Denisenko-Filaret expressed confidence that the process of creating a united local church in the country will come to an end before the end of the year.
The head of unrecognized church has specified such time frames on September 5 in the comment to the Interfax Ukraine agency.
“There will be Tomos. After Tomos there will be a sobor of those bishops who addressed the Ecumenical patriarch about granting Tomos of Autocephaly. Those who didn’t address won’t have a right to attend the sobor. Sobor means that all three churches have united into one united local Ukrainian autocephalous church, and it will elect its head, and in Ukraine there will be one Ukrainian church,” said the pseudo-patriarch.
He also added that those who don’t join the new structure will have to be called the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, having specified that recognition of the Kiev Patriarchate will happen already “this year”.
The chairman of the Department for the Interrelations of the Church with Society and Mass Media V.R. Legoyda called the appointment by the Constantinople Patriarchate of their representative-bishops in Ukraine an unprecedentedly flagrant intrusion into the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate.
“The appointment by the Constantinople Patriarch of his representative-bishops in Ukraine – without coordinating it with the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia and the Most blessed Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine – is nothing but an unprecedentedly flagrant intrusion into the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate. Such actions can’t be left without an answer,” reported V.R. Legoyda on his Telegram channel.
