On Sunday, March 17th, the priest Igor Shumak reported that Banderist militants made an attempt to occupy the Svyato-Uspensky temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in the village of Pogreby in the Brovarsky district of the Kiev region.
Anti-christ forces try to sadden our celebration. In the village of Pogreby in the Kiev region they try to seize the temple from Orthodox believers. Our parishioners also left from there. We ask for prayers
It should be noted that the representatives of the territorial community who are not parishioners of the Uspensky temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) voted on its transition to the newly created schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine“ (OCU) and entered the temple during the service. The police later arrived at the scene.
Father Aleksey, who was at the place of events, gave a comment to the Ukrainian media outlet “Strana”:
“Today, after a liturgy, people who said that this temple will switch to the OCU started to come into the temple. A conflict began to immediately happen in the temple and the law enforcement officers who arrived forced everyone out of the temple – and us, away from our opponents. We were not allowed to close off the temple, the police took it under their protection until this conflict is resolved, but it’s unclear how long this will take. Our parishioners stand behind the church fencing and pray, representatives of the OCU stand slightly further away and sing songs. In total about 700 people arrived there, they were in camouflage, in some special clothes, representatives of ‘Right Sector‘ were also seen. There is a lot of transport around – both buses and cars. Some of them drove/were driven, some came by foot,” said the priest.
