Banderists in Action: Radicals Demand “Eurovision” Participants Sing in Ukrainian

Translated by Ollie Richardson

Ukrainian radicals and activists demanded from President Petro Poroshenko that 75% of the songs at “Eurovision-2017” are performed in the state language, as is required by the new law of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian news agency of “Voice of Truth”.

Earlier, People’s Deputies of the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a bill on the exclusive use on the territory of Ukraine of the state language. It became mandatory for all Ukrainian media, as well as for State authorities and educational institutions.

That’s why radicals decided to demand from the organizers of “Eurovision-2017” the obligatory observance of laws of Ukraine – 75% of all songs in the contest must be performed in the official language, with simultaneous translations or subtitles. It is unknown how the organizers of the international song competition will treat such a proposal if the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko nevertheless takes the demand of the radicals into account.

As a reminder, the other day the SBU imposed a three-year ban of entrance on the Russian participant of “Eurovision-2017” Yulia Samoylova. The claims of the Ukrainian authorities are connected to the fact that supposedly the Russian gave a concert in Crimea without having asked the SBU for permission.
