Peacekeepers under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) will be placed on the territory of Donbass “not according to the Russian scenario”. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, emphasizing that the government in Kiev wants to use in Donbass the peacekeeping experience of Ottawa.

According to the Ukrainian President, a UN peacekeeping mission must be on all the territory of Donbass, including the border with the Russian Federation. Thus, the Ukrainian leader expressed confidence that peacekeepers “are the shortest way to achieve peace in Ukraine”.

Furthermore, on his official Facebook page the President of Ukraine wrote that a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbass will be a “real breakthrough”.

“I believe that the UN peacekeeping operation will be a real breakthrough in the peaceful settlement. In this endeavor, expertise and advice of our Canadian friends would be of great value for us,” reported Poroshenko.

According to Poroshenko’s understanding

The expert of the “Public Diplomacy” fund and expert of the analytical club “Future Now” Yury Golub noted in comment to the Federal News Agency that, as is known, Poroshenko has a very peculiar understanding of the idea of deploying peacekeepers — as the occupation of Donetsk and Lugansk together with a barrier on the Russian border. And at the same time he considers himself to have the right to choose the contingent that will carry out such an occupation.

“It is quite obvious that good candidates for such role, from the point of view of the Kiev administration, are the descendants of Nazi-Banderists that make up the most active part of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada. It is obvious that the Canadian leadership, which is orientated towards Russophobia, with pleasure will respond to this appeal. Canada is among the States that especially actively support Kiev, including in the military sphere. Thus, near Lvov Canadian experts train Ukrainian soldiers within the framework of the ‘Unifier’ program. The embodiment of the plan of Poroshenko would mean a catastrophe for the population of Donbass. The ancestors of current Ukrainian lobbyists in Canada distinguished themselves with special atrocities in Donbass during the days of the Great Patriotic War, acting as a part of OUN-UPA. Probably, this circumstance especially inspires the Kiev administration,” added the analyst.
