The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine allowed the use of the “Maxim” easel machine gun from the year 1910 in “special operations” in Donbass, declared the chief of arms of the UAF Nikolay Shevtsov.

He noted that the “Maxim” machine gun is intended to defeat a group of live targets and enemy firing weapons at a range of up to 1 km. “Some units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (I want to stress –  only at their own requests) use this machine gun in anti-terrorist operation strongholds and checkpoints as a means of strengthening fire,” reports the website “Ukrainian news” citing his words.

He emphasised that the “Maxim” machine gun has the advantage that it does not require the replacement of the barrel after intensive firing.

Moreover, according to open data, as of August 15th, 2011, in the possession of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine there were 35,000 “Maxim” machine guns of 7.62 mm caliber.

For comparison, the day before on the Internet a video appeared showing two of the newest machine guns developed for the Russian army.

In May the media reported that the ex-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk was awarded a “Maxim” machine gun when he was in the position of head of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers. Moreover, it was noted that the machine gun was awarded with the authorization to carry it. It was also received by Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Aleksandr Turchynov.
