Document Published by Italian Media Points to the Involvement of the Ukrainian National Guard in the Murder of Andrea Rocchelli

Translated by Ollie Richardson

The Italian media claims that the press photographer Andrea Rocchelli who died in Donbass was “moved away” by the Ukrainian military on Kiev’s orders.

On May 24th, 2014, the car that the foreign correspondents making a report on the bombing of civilians of Donbass were in came under mortar fire near the village of Andreevka near Slavyansk. As a result Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian translator Andrey Mironov were fatally wounded. Three and a half years later those who are responsible for this crime haven’t been punished.

However, now this case has every chance of moving off dead center thanks to the material of the Italian publication Lamezia live, which published an article under the loud title “Exclusive: Italian newspaper photographer Andrea Rocchelli was killed for being inconvenient”.

According to the publication, “Andi” (as Rocchelli was called in professional circles) attracted the anger of Kiev only for the fact that he decided to show and tell the truth about the war in Donbass and about the awful crimes that “the Kiev regime has dirtied itself with”.

Journalists refer to the official document addressed to the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Yury Allerov, who forces to look at in a new way not only Rocchelli and Mironov’s deaths, but also speaks in favour for the arrest of the Staff Sergeant of the National Guard of Ukraine Vitali Markiv, detained at Bologna airport in June of this year on the suspicion of murdering the journalists. There, in black and white, in addition to the name Markiv, who participated in the so-called “anti-terrorist operation” on the day of the murder of “Andi”, are the names of nine more soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF) who are involved as witnesses in Rocchelli’s case.

Besides this, disclosed on paper is the fact of their briefing, which was carried out by commanders of the National Guard, to forbid subordinates from making statements that are contrary to the Ukrainian side’s official version of events.

The Italian reporters hope that the revealed facts will be considered by investigators and that they will help them to bring the guilty persons to responsibility, without falling into the trap of the Ukrainian authorities.
