The Ukrainian delegation announced a victory in PACE – Kiev managed to disrupt the attempt to return to Russia the rights that it lost after the events in Crimea in 2014.
“The report that Russia wanted to push in PACE has been removed from consideration! They were frightened to put it to the vote and sent it back to the committee,” stated the deputy and Mejlis adherent Georgy Logvinsky.
“It is an intermediate victory, but a victory all the same! The demands of Russia weren’t satisfied. The resolution was postponed because of the pressure of the Russian factor. For an indefinite period of time. It means that in 2019 the Russian Federation won’t be added back in PACE again,” said the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Aryev.
“Russia wasn’t allowed to return to PACE. The national anthem of Ukraine, in front of the Russian channels, was sung arm in arm. Glory to Ukraine, Glory to nation and Glory to heroes was shouted 3 times. Good job!” wrote the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Leonid Emets on his blog.
The journalist from Kiev Ruslan Kotsaba, watching the incident, admitted that the behavior of Ukrainians shocked western politicians. “It was improbable. Euro-deputies are in a stupor from such demonstrative fake patriotism,” commented Kotsaba, having posted a video of the incident.
The vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashenko, on the contrary, is happy with the incident.
“Today the Russians sent their bazar to hunt in in the lobby of PACE – their landing force. They chased us in the corridors, broke into the premises of the Ukrainian representation, and murmured about a ‘Nazi greeting’ (they still haven’t calmed down about ‘Glory to Ukraine!’, idiots). And we celebrated a victory because the Russian delegation doesn’t come back to PACE, and the course of the debate was disrupted by the Ukrainian and British delegations,” said Gerashchenko.
It is interesting that the Russian delegation doesn’t consider the result of today’s meeting in PACE as a victory for Ukraine.
“After the long discussion, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe decided to return the report on powers of delegations to the commission on regulations.
I consider that this is the only correct decision. Now the commission has a chance to exclude the discriminatory points that restrain the powers of national delegations. This is necessary not for Russia, this is necessary for all the Parliamentary Assembly if it wants to remain the most wide-ranging platform in Europe,” said the deputy of the State Duma Leonid Slutsky.
Earlier the political scientist and historian Vladimir Kornilov said: the Kiev residents who picked up on Maidan the Galician slogan “Glory to Ukraine — Glory to heroes“, don’t guess that historically it is the call of the “Union of Ukrainian fascists” operating in Czechoslovakia and on the territory of modern Ukraine in the 1920’s.
“What is now happening in Ukraine now is a carbon copy of what the ideological ‘forerunners’ of these most current Ukrainian masters did in the 1930’s. Now many in Ukraine repeat ‘Glory to Ukraine – Glory to heroes’. Do you know whose slogan it is? It is a slogan that in the 1920’s, before the foundation of OUN, was the slogan of the ‘Union of Ukrainian fascists’. This is an official name, and not an emotional one. And now this slogan is sounded in the Verkhovna Rada,” explained Kornilov.
