By means of examination of DNA Ukrainian experts managed to identify the bodies of 450 soldiers, whose bodies were discovered in the area of the armed conflict in Donbass.

This was stated by the adviser of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on humanitarian affairs Olga Bohomolets. According to her, the experts have a lot more work to do, as another 1800 remains of the Ukrainian military await identification by experts.

“Today, we have 1,800 remains, which were removed from the territory of Donbass, 880 of which we have DNA profiles of in the system. 450 of them were identified, and the families received compensation,” said Olga Bohomolets.

She emphasised that she was personally involved in creating the system of DNA identification of the dead.

As a reminder, in the summer of this year the Verkhovna Rada adopted in first reading bill no. 2001a, which provides for the establishment of a DNA database to identify bodies of dead servicemen. According to the bill, the identification of military personnel is an obligation of the State. DNA samples are obtained with the consent of the person who is taking up military service.
