Representatives of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine intend to cooperate with Facebook to ensure information security during the presidential elections in the country. This was reported by the press service of department.
On Wednesday, January 23rd, the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Yury Stets, his deputy Dmitry Zolotukhin, and the State Secretary Artem Bidenko met the area manager of the public policy of Facebook in Central and Eastern Europe Gabriela Cech and Facebook’s area manager of public policy on issues of elections Anika Geisel.
According to Minister Yury Stets, the security measures that were introduced by the social network are the verification of the pages of the Ukrainian authorities, countering fake news, and also the removal of a large number of connected fake profiles, groups, and pages. According to the Ministry, one of the two discovered bot networks was managed from Russia and was used for information operations in Ukraine.
Gabriela Cech noted that Facebook treats violations of community standards seriously and plans to strengthen security measures during elections in Ukraine.
Anika Geisel described one of the functions that became already available to Ukrainian users on the eve of the electoral race. Now in the information section of a popular page it is possible to learn what country its administrator is from and what active advertising was started on behalf of the page.
