The red-black flag is considered to be offensive for Poles as the flag of the Ukrainian nationalists.
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has decided to fine the Football Federation of Ukraine 15,000 Swiss Francs for the “discriminatory and unsportsmanlike behaviour of fans.” This was reported by Ukrainian media.
The reason for this was the emergence of a red-black flag, which became a symbol of the nationalist organization “Right Sector”, at the qualification match of the UEFA 2018 World Cup: Ukraine vs Kosovo in Krakow, Poland.
FIFA said that this flag is “provocative, insulting, offensive” for the Poles.
According to the agency “Vesti”, the red-black flag in the reference book of FARE “Discriminatory signs and symbols in European football” is listed as “Flag of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists” with the explanation that it is being “used by some far-right and nationalist political organizations in Ukraine.”
