Cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kiev Patriarchate [UOC KP]) and “Right Sector“ in the sphere of facilitating the transition of communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to the structure of the Kiev Patriarchate became one of the main topics at the meeting between the head of the UOC KP Filaret and representatives of the leadership “Right Sector” (RS). This was reported on the official website of the UOC KP.
The commander of the Voluntary Ukrainian Corps Andrey Stempitsky, the head of the centeal HQ of RS Vasily Labaychuk, the head of RS Kiev city organisation Vladimir Zagazey, and also the archbishop Ternopol and Kremenets Nestor participated in a meeting in Kiev on March 19th.
“There is nothing surprising about this meeting. After all, in 2017 ‘Right Sector’ and the Kiev Patriarchate concluded an agreement on cooperation and interaction for the creation of a united local church in Ukraine,” noted the publicist Aleksandr Ermolenko. “By the way, this document was signed by RS via Vasily Labaychuk, who representatives of the UOC accuse of organising and personally participating in the forceful capture of churches of this confession in the Ternopol region. Judging by the presence at the meeting of the head of the Ternopol diocese of the UOC KP Nestor, it can become hot there once again. I am sure that new raider attacks on temples of the UOC (Ukrainian Orthodox Church) should be expected”.
As was reported earlier, on the eve of Filaret’s meeting with RS members a new religious conflict inflamed in the village of Shpykolosy in the Lvov region. As sources from the Lvov diocese of the UOC reported, on March 17th supporters of the UOC KP made an attempt to enter and give a service in the Svyato-Troitsky temple belonging to the UOC. However, they couldn’t realise their intentions because the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church closed the temple. Then representatives of the UOC KP called members of “Right Sector” for help. In parallel with them employees of the National Police of Ukraine arrived in Shpykolosy.
