During his visit to the US Petro Poroshenko, along with his spouse Marina, visited the cemetery on the territory of the American Naval academy where senator John McCain buried.

On his social network accounts he called him “a great friend of Ukraine” and reported that he laid flowers at the grave of “a true hero of not only the American people, but also the Ukrainian people”.

Poroshenko also published a photo of McCain’s grave. In one of them the president of Ukraine is kneeling in front of the grave of the American senator. However, after receiving criticism on the Internet this photo was soon removed, but it had been saved by other Internet users.

In addition, as was reported on the website of the Ukrainian president, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy admiral Igor Voronchenko left a memorial sign of the Ukrainian Navy on the grave of the American senator McCain. The message says that it has been done “as a sign of the great respect of the Ukrainian military seamen and marines for the outstanding American political figure and great friend of Ukraine”.

McCain, who was known for his acute anti-Russian position, died from brain cancer at the end of August. Key characters of the coup d’etat in Ukraine became guests of honor at the Senator’s farewell ceremony: president Petro Poroshenko, the mayor of Kiev Vitaly Klitschko, and former mayor of Odessa region and former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
