Kiev Blocked the UN Draft Russian Resolution on the Fight Against Coronavirus

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Ukraine blocked the draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on combating coronavirus submitted by Russia. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“Ukraine was the first UN Member State to interrupt the default procedure on the Russian-initiated draft resolution of the UN General Assembly ‘Declaration of Solidarity of the United Nations in front of the Challenges Created by Coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19)’. In the text under this noble name there are many correct things and one manipulation, which can have strategic destructive consequences for the system of international security – the launch of the process of lifting international sanctions,” wrote the Minister.

According to Kuleba, such actions are “an obvious manipulation committed by Russia”.

“Ukraine supports every international effort aimed at combating coronavirus. In particular, we will support another resolution of the UN General Assembly on this subject that does not contain manipulation and enjoys the support of the absolute majority of UN member states. So, the default procedure is aborted. The Russian resolution will not be adopted. We will continue to block all efforts of Russia to destroy the sanctions regime,” he added.

Earlier it became known that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on all countries to unite in the fight against coronavirus, as well as to exchange information, scientific experience, and advanced methods of treatment.
