The Obolonsky regional court of Kiev announced the sentences of militants of the “Tornado” battalion, which were accused of tortures, rapes, and the murders of civilians of Donbass.
This was reported on the evening of April 7th by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
According to its data, the former commander of the disbanded company of patrol service of the militia of special purpose “Tornado” of the General Directorate of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Lugansk region Ruslan Onishchenko, his deputy Nikolay Tsukur and 6 more employees of the battalion were given long terms of imprisonment, and four more defendants were given suspended sentences.
Onishchenko was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment, Tsukur — 9 years, the citizen of Belarus Daniil Lyashuk — 10 years, and Ilya Holod — 9.5 years. Also, the former militants Boris Gulchuk, Maksim Glebov, and Nikita Kust were all sentenced to 9 years of prison, and Anatoly Plamadyala — 8 years of imprisonment.
Militants of “Tornado” Yury Shevchenko, Roman Ivash, Andrey Demchuk, and Nikita Sviridovsky were sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment with a probation period: Shevchenko – 3 years, and 2 years for the others.
Additional obligations were assigned to those given a conditional sentence, in particular – to come to authorized bodies, to inform about a change of place of registration, to stay in the place of residence in the evening and night time, and the wearing of an “electronic bracelet”.
A day earlier the last court hearing on the case of “Tornado” took place. The Prosecutor during a speech in a debate requested 15 years of imprisonment for the commander of the bandit-unit Ruslan Onishchenko, his deputy Nikolay Tsukur, and Daniil Lyashuk (he is also a fighter and skinhead Al-Takbir) . For other “Tornado” members – 8 to 12 years.
The defendants pronounced their last word in which they stated that they aren’t guilty of anything, and that the accusations against them were fabricated under the decree of the military prosecutor Anatoly Matios.
In June, 2015, it became known about the detention of 8 militants of the special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine “Tornado”, including the Commander Ruslan Onishchenko, on charges of illegal imprisonment and kidnapping of locals, tortures, murders, and a number of other serious crimes.
According to the investigation, the detainees raped and killed a man, filming at the same time the process. A part of the videos of “Tornado” militants was published.
