The well-known St Andrew’s Church in Kiev, built in the 18th century at the order of the empress Elizabeth of Russia, and occupied after the disintegration of the Soviet Union by Ukrainian schismatics, will be transferred to the use of the Constantinople Patriarch “as a token of gratitude”.

This was announced by the wife of the Prosecutor-General and the representative of the president of Ukraine Irina Lutsenko during a coordination board in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

“This is our common victory. The president thanks the Ecumenical Patriarch for his hardness and courage actually in opposition with the Kremlin. After all, we understand very well that after the Synod that took place in Minsk they broke off ties with Constantinople, thus Moscow actually isolated itself. The President supports the desire to receive Tomos as soon as possible, and in solidarity with this process he has made a symbolic gesture: in a few days a draft law will be registered, in accordance with which president Poroshenko suggests to transfer the St Andrew’s Church to the continuous use of the Ecumenical Patriarch as a symbolic gesture as St. Andrew was once baptised in Ukraine.

It will be symbolic gesture of unity with the mother Church. President Poroshenko appeals to all to support this draft law: ‘On the Transfer of St Andrew’s Church to the Continuous Use of the Ecumenical Patriarch,” stated Lutsenko.

It should be noted that at the moment St Andrew’s Church is treated as a state museum, however services are held in it by the schismatic Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

“Poroshenko is going to hand over St Andrew’s Church, which was constructed by Russian emperors, to Bartholomew. This church, by the way, is included in the list of heritage of UNESCO. He copes well with the task of the State Department. The pig [Poroshenko – ed] has sold both the country and its faith,” commented Vladislav Berdichevsky.
