Kurt Volker Not Only Admitted That Ukraine Violates the Ceasefire, But He Even Justified It

The special representative of the US to Ukraine explained why the Ukrainian side uses force in the southeast of Ukraine.

He said this in an interview with “Bild”, answering a question about the reports of the OSCE SMM, according to which in Donbass both representatives of the militias of the DPR and LPR and the Ukrainian army open fire. The cynicism of this statement reads off the scale, but it isn’t surprising since it is a logical continuation of the policy of double standards:

“Of course, the Ukrainians open fire too, but you have to keep in mind that all of this happens on the territory of Ukraine. It is absolutely normal for a country to have soldiers in its own country. But it isn’t normal for one country to have its soldiers in another country. Such is the situation in the east of Ukraine,” he said.

Volker also considers that there is a need to take into account the different kinds of ceasefire violation too.

“Don’t forget what the OSCE considers to be a ceasefire violation. If you defend a village in the country and you come under mortar fire, then it is one violation. If you then open fire in the direction where the fire came from, then it is also a violation. Such is the nature of the phrase ‘both sides’. This is rather accurate, but it also distorts the nature of the problem,” he concluded.
