Russia and Belarus are ready to opt for the unification of the people of the two countries to the extent that the people themselves are ready, said the Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko after negotiations with the Russian colleague Vladimir Putin.

“I will express my opinion, I think that my colleague and friend will agree with it: we are ready to go as far as the unification, association of our efforts, states and people, to the extent that you are ready to do it. Listen, we can unite together even tomorrow, we have no problems. But whether you, Russians and Belarusians, are ready for this is the question,” said Lukashenko to journalists, answering the question of what degree of integration the two states can reach.

“That’s why you should address this question to yourself,” he added. According to him, “the extent that you are ready for it is the extent that we will carry out your will”.

“If you are not ready, then however powerful and huge Russia is, today it is not able to impose its will on someone, and even more so, we do not need it. That’s why it is you who should prepare yourself – in the consciousness, behaviour, set objectives before yourself, I mean the people of Russia and Belarus, and we will realise them, we are your servants,” stressed the Belarusian leader.
