The phrase “fraternal peoples” for Belarusians is not an empty phrase and not a figure of speech. This was stated on July 2nd by the President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at a solemn meeting devoted to Independence Day, reports the correspondent of BELTA.

Speaking about the events of the Great Patriotic War, the President emphasised that the Belarusian people in a union with other people managed not only to survive, but also to win and set an example of shattering force of unity and the unity of nations.

“We carried out a Great Feat and continued to do this during the difficult post-war period. Belarus was lifted from the ruins and ashes by people who came to us from the most different corners of the Soviet Union in order to live and work. Many of them started families here, built houses, and found their second Motherland. The roots of the new family tree of the post-war generation have planted themselves on this land,” noted the head of State.

“All of this has connected our people with the people of the USSR by really vital bonds. It is for this reason that the phrase ‘fraternal peoples’ for Belarusians is not just an empty phrase and not a figure of speech. This Slavic unity will never be broken or defeated by anyone!” stressed Aleksandr Lukashenko.
