The non-factional People’s Deputy Nadezhda Savchenko, who is accused of state treason and preparing a terrorist attack, asked the former first Deputy Prosecutor-General of Ukraine Renat Kuzmin to advise her concerning a possible appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). This is stated in Savchenko’s letter addressed to Kuzmin, which was published on the page of the people’s deputy on Facebook.

She expressed the opinion that the legal work in the international legal framework that is currently being carried out by Kuzmin “will serve Ukraine and will be a historical lesson that will be useful for the world community”. “I will be grateful if you agree to advise me concerning a defence and a possible appeal to the ECHR. Your cooperation with my lawyers will considerably enhance the chances of Ukraine’s victory over the arbitrariness and lawlessness of each political ‘elite’ that comes to power in Ukraine, and it will also be our common victory – the victory of the Ukrainian people,” noted the people’s deputy.

Savchenko also noted: “From all your political views and ideas I like only one thing: the restoration and stabilisation of the legal framework of Ukraine in the specialised International Court of Justice according to international law and the democratic values of the civilised world. My personal opinion is that the people who came to Maidan had the full right to express the will of the people by an armed uprising against the authorities. And I completely agree that both ‘Maidan’ and Donbass need to be judged by the one law of Ukraine, and that new legislation shouldn’t be invented for each individual situation in accordance with the political environment”.

Renat Kuzmin already reported on Facebook that he signed an agreement with Nadezhda Savchenko on rendering legal aid. “We reached an agreement on cooperation and signed a contract for the rendering of legal aid, including concerning an appeal to the ECHR. Currently a detailed study of the materials of the criminal proceedings and the evidence underlying the charges is planned,” noted Kuzmin.
