New Ukrainian School Textbooks Will Promote the Reception of Autocephaly by the Schismatics

From 2019 history textbooks will be published in Ukraine that will teach students about a new “historical event” in the country’s life — receiving Tomos of Autocephaly of the church. This was reported by the local publication “UNN” on February 8th with reference to the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Grinevich.

Grinevich noted that she gave an assignment to the department to develop a new Ukrainian history program for the 11th classes and to include in it information about the emergence of the so-called new Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. After the approval of the program, information about the new religious organisation must be printed in the textbooks, the publishing of which will start this year.

According to her, before April – and the history of independent Ukraine starts to be studied approximately in April-May – detailed methodical recommendations will be submitted to history teachers so that when studying this period they will obligatorily cover the topic of the reception of Tomos of Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

On January 9th members of the synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate signed Tomos of Autocephaly of the so-called Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) created on the basis of two uncanonical churches. The Russian Orthodox Church noted that the paper signed by members of the synod is the result of “irrepressible political and personal ambitions” and has no canonical force.
