For the Day of dignity and freedom (November 21st) the military-sports competition “Sniper of the Capital” will take between the school students of Kiev. Such an event is written down in the cultural-art program published by the Kiev City State Administration.

“The city military-sports shooting training competition ‘Sniper of the capital – 2018’ will take place among the educational institutions of Kiev,” noted the KCSA.

The specialist of the department of extracurricular education of the Kiev Executive Committee Sergey Melnik told “Gromadske” that school students and students of technical training colleges will participate in this competition.

The competition consists of theoretical and practical stages. At the practical stage the children shoot with air rifles, disassemble a replica Kalashnikov, and rapidly equip (fill) the magazine of a submachine gun.

It should be noted that this event caused an extremely ambiguous reaction on social networks, remembering that snipers are suspected of executing people on Maidan in February, 2014. At the same time, on November 16th it became known that a sniper of the National Guard was detained on suspicion of executing people in February, 2014.

Within the framework of the investigation in the criminal case about the shootings on Maidan in the winter of 2014 a sniper who at the time served in the internal troops, but was then dismissed from law enforcement bodies in 2016, was detained and arrested, confirmed the chief of the investigative department of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Ukraine Sergey Gorbatyuk.

On the air of the “112 Ukraine” TV channel he said that the detainee is suspected of committing murder on February 20th, 2014 together with former at that time “Berkut“ officers. At the same time, S. Gorbatyuk specified that at the time of detention this man did not work in law enforcement bodies any more (since 2016). Currently he is in a pre-trial detention center, since the court made the decision on his arrest.

Answering the question concerning the search for other suspected persons in the shooting of activists, S. Gorbatyuk said that concerning February 20th, 2014, 21 persons suspected of committing murders and also 6 organisers are wanted.

Update: After receiving a torrent of criticism, the junta in Kiev decided to cancel the event, claiming that it was added to the calendar “by mistake”.
