The head of the Lugansk People’s Republic Igor Plotnitsky offered to hold an all-Ukrainian referendum on the Federal structure of Ukraine. This was said in the statement of the head LPR on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the all-Ukrainian referendum, which was published on his official website.
“Respectful citizens of Ukraine! A quarter of a century is more than enough time to evaluate the consequences of the fateful decision that we supposedly made on December 1st, 1991.
People understood immediately after the results of the referendum and the first presidential elections the fact that the modern Ukrainian state was built on a foundation of deception and hypocrisy. Instead of the promised prosperity and equality we received a crazy increase in tariffs, delayed wages for six months, massive unemployment, and the forced transfer of schools, TV channels, and official documents only in “Ukrainian” language.
From the very beginning Ukraine showed itself to be a totalitarian state, which spits on the opinions and desires of the people. Thus, on December 1st, 1991, in the Zakarpattia region a referendum was formally held on giving the region the status of autonomy. In this and in many other cases, the central power paid no attention to the will of the people.
Under the cover of nationalist propaganda, oligarchs and the Kiev bureaucracy were plundering the regions. In 2004 and 2014, people went to Maidan seeking justice, protesting against the arbitrariness of officials, and received the worst lack of freedom, empty wallets, and even war.
In this situation, the referendum on May 11th, 2014, and the subsequent formation of the DPR and LPR was for us a way to protect the motherland and its families from the plundering and destruction,” said Plotnitsky in his address.
“The civil war unleashed by the current Kiev regime against Donbass, the suppression of any sane thinking on the entire territory of Ukraine, and the replacement of law enforcement bodies with the madness of inadequate “activists” – all of this already represents a threat to the very existence of the state. Only a new all-Ukrainian referendum about the Federal structure of Ukraine can save it,” it is said in the statement.
Plotnitsky emphasised that Federal structure should not be an obligatory type, like in the Russia Federation. The variant of the Federal Republic of Germany or the United States of America is possible, the main thing is to preserve the principle of the formation of vertical power with the maximum freedom of the regions in matters of economy, culture, education, health care, and law enforcement. At this time, Kiev should become just one of the regions of Ukraine.
The head of the LPR invited the “true patriots of Ukraine” in Lugansk to discuss the future of the “Ukrainian Federation” Constitution and the organization of the referendum.
“There isn’t much time left for searching for compromises. The alternative to it is the collapse of Ukraine into many tiny territories… We are ready to give democratic Ukraine another chance. And you?” asked Plotnitsky.
