Poroshenko “Buys” Sociological Research That Artificially Inflates the Size of His Electorate

Sociologists of the Dragomanov Sociological center are sure that the current president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will enter the second round of presidential elections with a rather small gap between him and the leader of the presidential race – Yulia Tymoshenko.

According to the research of the center, 16% of respondents would vote for Yulia Tymoshenko, and 12.3% of respondents expressed their readiness to vote for Poroshenko. The other candidates significantly lag behind the leaders: Anatoly Gritsenko has allegedly gained 8.3% of voters, Yury Boyko — 6.2%, etc.

It should be noted that as of late sociologists have given an completely different picture of the electoral sympathies of Ukrainian citizens. On September 4th the Razumkov Center published research from which it follows that Poroshenko is in third place (after Tymoshenko and Gritsenko) with an approval rating of 5.8%. In the middle of August “GfK Ukraine” gave 3.4% to Poroshenko and 7th place in the presidential race. 5.3% and also 7th place was given to the current president by the poll of the sociological “Rating” group published on August 8th.

“Evil tongues” assure that in the near future we will see a lot more research that will show a rapid growth in the approval rating of the current president of Ukraine. But it will be connected not with real changes in electoral sympathies, but with the need to provide “sociological foundations” for the result of the next presidential elections, which will have very little in common with the real preferences of citizens.
