Poroshenko’s Delirium: The Entire Population of Russia Would Accept the “Holy Ukrainian Citizenship”

The president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian authorities do not intend to distribute Ukrainian nationality to Russians because it would be taken up by the entire population of Russia, which he estimated at 140 million people.

“And we will not accept that someone will now distribute the holy Ukrainian citizenship to Russians. Because all 140 million would accept it. Because ours [nationality] is better. Because the Ukrainian citizenship is a great honour,” said Poroshenko during a meeting with representatives of the scientific community at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lvov.

The president emphasised that he will not allow anybody to “buy Ukraine for gas”. “Because the main thing that they are now trying to offer is that in Ukraine gas will be cheaper,” said Poroshenko.

As of January 1st 2019, according to the Russian State Statistics Service, 146.7 million permanent residents are recorded in the Russian Federation.

A skirmish started over who should become a citizen after the decree of Vladimir Putin on simplifying the acquisition of citizenship of the Russian Federation for residents of the DPR and LPR.

In response to this decision, the future president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine “will grant Ukrainian citizenship to representatives of all people suffering from authoritative and corrupt regimes”. First of all, to Russians.

Vladimir Putin, in turn, praised Zelensky for the intention to give out Ukrainian passports to Russians. The Russian President said that if Russians and Ukrainians have a common nationality, then they will only benefit from it.
