In November, 2013, there was no war in Ukraine. There wasn’t war at the beginning of 2014 either. In June of that year it was already in fully swing.

At this time Petro Poroshenko, Arsen Avakov, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and Aleksandr Turchynov were ALREADY in power. They are in power now – and war hasn’t stopped, despite 2 Minsk peace agreements.

And today Arsen Avakov, the Minister of Internal Affairs and one of the founders and sponsors of the so-called voluntary movement and its battalions, appeared in the pages of the “Ukrainian Truth” publication with an unexpected article about the preparation of “hybrid peace”.

Avakov gave terrifying figures. In three years of carrying out the anti-terrorist operation, the Minister of Internal Affairs reported about 500 servicemen committed suicide after returning from the zone of military operations. I.e. one battalion and one full army company.

These people died not from shelling or in a firefight. They came home, met their family, probably many started drinking. And then committed suicide.

More than 500 times families in different corners of the country faced the greatest grief – the head or an important member killed themselves.

It comes from the so-called post-traumatic syndrome, or as the author of article calls it (and it most likely is written for Avakov) – post-military veteran syndrome. It, according to the author, will become the reason for thousands and thousands more deaths even after the end of the war.

For comparison Arsen Borisovich shows the consequences of the Vietnamese war. Within ten years after the end of the Vietnamese war, 62,000 former American soldiers committed suicide (in peace time), and by 1988 this figure exceeded 100,000, i.e. almost equal to a half of the total number of ALL losses during military operations in Vietnam, including noncombat and wounds. In total during the war in Vietnam, in which about 50,000 US military personnel were killed, i.e. a half of the suicides that followed within 20 years. Thus, the general budget of programs of rehabilitation of the people who were injured from “Vietnam syndrome” is $4 billion in the US.

Needless to say, in Ukraine one thousand times less money is spent for the rehabilitation of military personnel. And if to consider that in the middle of June, 2017, in the country 280,500 people have the status of participants of military operations , and the fact that, according to the conventional international standard on military conflicts, 90-95% of participants of military operations have subsequently medical (connected with nervous system) and social problems, and the post-traumatic syndrome is diagnosed for a third, the number of suicides of the military will grow, without dropping even a year after peace-making. In the families of participants of the anti-terrorist operation violence is eightfold more than in others.

Avakov calls it a strategic problem for Ukraine for the next decades. As a reminder, the combat losses of the Ukrainian army in 2016 was 211 soldiers, noncombat – 256, from which suicides – 68 directly in the anti-terrorist operation zone. And if to trust the words of the minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the destiny of veterans of the anti-terrorist operation will be extremely gloomy: if they survive on the battlefield, in the next 10-20 years, even after the establishment of peace, they will die if not directly, then indirectly: from alcohol intake, drugs, the destruction of families and asocial behavior caused by a post-military syndrome. At least 80,000-100,000 people are at risk — veterans of the ATO

Avakov doesn’t know how to solve this problem, being limited to empty statements like “the State has to”, “society is obliged”.

As a reminder, the current head of the National Security and Defense Council Aleksandr Turchynov announced the anti-terrorist operation, and the current President Petro Poroshenko promised to finish the anti-terrorist operation in “only a few weeks” in 2014.
