The Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered, like last winter, to once again help the Ukrainian city of Genichesk with a supply of gas.
“It is necessary to help. To do the same (as last winter),” he declared, responding to the request of the head of the Crimea Sergey Aksenov.
At this time the President noted that, “of course it is necessary to establish financial discipline in relation to neighbours.”
Putin asked Aksenov for the precise information about the company “Chernomorneftegaz” if it completes a connection to the main pipelines. The latter confirmed this.
After a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council in Yaroslavl, Aksenov approached the President and reported that the inhabitants of Genichesk and the Genichesk region, again asked Russia for natural gas supplies.
“There the situation is close to a humanitarian catastrophe, the situation of last year became exacerbated – when people were left without heat,” he said.
Aksenov recalled that last winter, on behalf of Putin, the town, which nearly froze, was provided with gas and heat.
“Today the situation is critical once again. During supplies last year, a debt accumulated of 18 million rubles, and this debt has still not been repaid. But, as the situation there is critical, we ask your permission to provide such supplies,” said the head of Crimea.
In early January of 2016, Putin instructed to study the possibility of gas supplies from Russia to Genichesk in the Kherson region of Ukraine at the request of the mayor of this town in connection with strong frosts. In total, according to the data of company “Chernomorneftegaz”, from 4th to 11th of January more than 33,000 cubic meters of natural gas was supplied to Genichesk.
