A representative of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko is convinced that this may become a necessary condition for European integration of Ukraine.

Verkhovna Rada Deputy Serhiy Leshchenko predicted the quick legalization of same-sex marriage and soft drugs in Ukraine.

“I remember the words of Groisman, who said that there will never be LGBT unions in Ukraine. This is reminiscent of Soviet rhetoric, But … it could become one of the conditions of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, and will push for a greater discussion on the topic,” said the MP to Ukrainian media. “Will it be in 2017? I don’t know. Perhaps the current Rada will not accept this law, but the next one – for sure. If, of course, orientation towards the European Union remains.”

According to Leshchenko, European countries gradually refused to fight marijuana when they realized what the main threat comes from hard drugs: there is “more turnover” and the social consequences are more serious. And Ukrainian lawmakers complains that Deputies are looking for easy ways and organize small raids in order to punish consumers, instead of the organizers of criminal business.

“Decriminalization of soft drugs is ongoing in the world. This inevitably will happen in Ukraine, but society is not yet ready to admit it, he said.

As a reminder, last summer the first gay pride parade was held in Odessa. US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt at the time warmly congratulated Ukrainians on this event and stated that it is a sure sign that “Ukraine is changing”.
