Kiev declared that Great Britain promised Ukraine further military support. The political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko on the air of radio Sputnik expressed the opinion that the main aim of the Ukrainian authorities is to achieve the deliveries of lethal weapons, which the West isn’t in a hurry to do.

The Minister of the Armed Forces of Great Britain Mark Lancaster promised to Ukraine further support, it is reported on the website of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine following the results of a meeting between the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko with the British minister.

“The Minister of the Armed Forces of Great Britain Mark Lancaster positively noted the dynamics of the development of the Armed forces of Ukraine and assured the further support of Ukraine from Great Britain,” it is said in the message.

According to the Ministry of Defence, Muzhenko informed Lancaster about the state and prospects of bilateral military cooperation, reforming the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the implementation of NATO standards for troops. As was noted, it became possible, among other things, thanks to the education-training operation ORBITAL, founded in 2015, and consultative help from advisers at the strategic level from Great Britain. According to the department, during this time more than 5,500 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were prepared with the participation of British instructors.

On the air of radio Sputnik the President of the Center for Systemic Analysis and Forecasting, the political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko expressed the opinion that the main aim of Kiev is to receive from the West the delivery of lethal weapons.

“The Ukrainian leadership in recent months became especially active, trying to receive arms at least from somebody – lethal weapons that weren’t delivered to Ukraine officially. It is clear that Ukraine needs them for propaganda purposes, because neither Britain, nor the US can’t rearm the Ukrainian army because it is armed with Soviet weapons. By the way, deliveries of Soviet arms from Eastern Europe both happened in Ukraine and continue. That’s why Britain and the US aren’t able to offer anything extraordinary to Ukraine. But the fact itself of consent at the official level to deliver at least something – even a box of pistols – will allow Ukraine to declare: deliveries of lethal arms started, and it means that the West is with us. This is necessary for the Ukrainian authorities for strengthening its position in the country,” said Rostislav Ishchenko.
