The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is going to file another lawsuit against Russia, this time “for the damage caused in Donbass”. The political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko on the air of “Radio Sputnik” expressed his opinion about what such an initiative is connected to.

According to Poroshenko, Kiev “shouldn’t wait a minute more” and must formulate “consolidated claims” against Russia.

“I appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to take measures for the fastest creation of the appropriate inter-departmental coordinating body,” wrote Poroshenko on his Facebook page.

He added that the emergence of such a body is provided by the law on the reintegration of Donbass adopted in January.

Earlier, Kiev addressed to a number of international judicial instances, in particular to the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice, with lawsuits against Russia. In its complaints, Ukraine demands compensation for the damage caused by the loss of property in Crimea.

The President of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting Rostislav Ishchenko expressed on the air of “Radio Sputnik” the opinion that Kiev can continue to file claims against Russia, but there will be no result.

“This statement is purely for domestic consumption. They are constantly filing certain claims against Russia, they have already queued up dozens. Poroshenko’s electoral campaign (presidential elections in Ukraine are planned for 2019) has started, he needs to somehow cause a stir and a fuss. That’s why he makes these kinds of statements. Kiev can continue to further submit claims – though the Lotto, or anywhere in fact. It will be enough for him to show himself in a ‘good light’ inside the country. However, this interests nobody in general, so let him talk all he wants. It’s possible to accuse him of something and submit a claim in the International Court of Justice. It’s possible to accuse him of causing moral damage to you because he walks around in wrinkled clothes and demands compensation … the result will be the same as Poroshenko’s,” said Rostislav Ishchenko.
