Russia Opened a Criminal Case Against Ukraine’s Chief History Falsifier Vladimir Vyatrovich For The Rehabilitation of Nazism

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on March 14th that it has initiated a criminal case concerning the Chairman of the Banderist “Ukrainian Institute of National Memory” (UINM) Vladimir Vyatrovich for the rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 2 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The Committee states that, according to the investigation, Vyatrovich, using his official position, working under the guise of the comprehensive study of the history of the Ukrainian state and the implementation of a complex of actions for the perpetuation of the memory of participants of the Ukrainian liberation movement, from November 12th 2014 to this very day, systematically denies the facts established by the verdict of the International military tribunal for the trial and punishment of the main war criminals of the European axis countries, including about the belonging of the Ukrainian nationalists during the times of the Great Patriotic War to SS troops and their participation in war crimes against civilians.

As is specified by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the sentence of the tribunal established that “the SS organisation was an active participant in the commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity”, and “it is impossible to single out any SS unit that did not take part in this criminal activity”. Units of the “SS were used for purposes that, according to the Charter, are criminal and include the persecution and destruction of Jews, atrocities and murders in concentration camps, excesses carried out during the administration of the occupied territories, the implementation of the slave labour programme, and the ill-treatment and killing of prisoners of war”.

The denial of the facts established by the sentence of the international military tribunal in Nuremberg and, thus, the results of World War II, as well as the glorification of Nazi criminals, cannot remain without due attention. Such actions cause bewilderment especially among those representatives of the people whose ancestors perished at the hands of fascists, and the persons committing such crimes must incur lawful punishment.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will not stand aside and will continue work on identifying and eliminating such crimes. Each fact will be given a comprehensive legal assessment.
