The decision of Mikheil Saakashvili to resign may be related to the presidential elections in the United States. This was said by political analyst Sergey Sudakov in an interview with RT.

“For Saakashvili this is the only correct decision. The situation in the US will soon change, and he understands that Ukraine’s interests won’t be so important for the White House. His relationship with the current President Petro Poroshenko is quite fickle, and his position of Governor was lobbied. As soon as Ukraine will cease to be a tasty morsel for American politicians, Saakashvili will lose the support that he received from Western colleagues up to now. It is better for him to take the initiative and leave early. Now he is a defunct-politician: he isn’t needed by either Ukraine nor the United States,” said Sudakov.

He added that Saakashvili could continue his career in the United States.

“He was unable to realise his political career in Ukraine. He wanted to become President or Prime Minister there, however friends from America did not directly help, and now his use has already been spent. In the best case scenario he will be able to settle down in an American research institute or University that is engaged in the study of relations with Russia, and there to share his experiences. His political career is over,” concluded the analyst.

Earlier it became known that Saakashvili had resigned.
