Savchenko: The DPR and LPR Are Not Terrorist Organisations

Translated by Ollie Richardson & Angelina Siard

The DPR and LPR aren’t the terrorist organisations that the Ukrainian authorities try to present them as. This was stated during a hearing in the Shevchenkovsky district court of Kiev by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Nadezhda Savchenko, who is accused of preparing terrorist attacks.

According to her, it’s not terrorists who live in Donbass, but citizens of Ukraine, who are no different to those who live in Kiev.

“The DPR and LPR aren’t terrorist organisations. This wasn’t recognised in the Verkhovna Rada, and there is a decision of the Supreme Court on this matter. Therefore you speculate on what you want to be the reality.

If you want to somehow tie together what is happening in Ukraine and terrorism, and not to war with Russia – which in principle is a fact that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine doesn’t want to recognise in any way, then firstly bring this law into something real so that it answers your drawn up request.

There are no LPR or DPR terrorist organisations. It is a territory that people live in, it is an occupied territory where people live in an occupation regime. People, Ukrainians, our fellow compatriots,” said Savchenko.
