The head of the public organisation “Rusich” and teacher at the “Kherson Academy of Continuing Education” higher education institute Tatiyana Kuzmich was arrested in Kherson on August 21st by the Security Service of Ukraine on suspicion of treason.
According to investigators, during her stay in Crimea in 2015, Kuzmich “was involved in espionage activities for the FSB of Russia and transmitted materials for subversive work in the Kherson region and throughout Ukraine”. The case was heard behind closed doors, her arrest was tentatively scheduled until October 9th, according to the “Favourite Kherson“ website.
According to the publication, Tatiyana Kuzmich may face a sentence of imprisonment for a period of 12 to 15 years with or without confiscation of property.
Tatiyana Kuzmich’s professional activity is related to teaching Russian language and literature. As a public figure, head of the Russian national community “Rusich”, Tatiyana has implemented projects aimed at strengthening relations between brotherly nations – Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian.
Tatiyana Kuzmich is a co-author of the Russian language textbook for grades 8 and 9 of Ukrainian general educational institutions with Russian as the language of instruction (2008).
As a teacher and public figure, she was awarded certificates of Honour and Gratitude from both Ukraine and Russia.
