The Canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church: Poroshenko Should Be Tried for Inciting Inter-Religious Strife

A criminal case should be brought against the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on suspicion of kindling inter-religious discord. This was stated by the spokesman of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Vasily Anisimov.

“Yesterday the President of Ukraine spoke. When will the Kagarlitsky prosecutor initiate a criminal case against him for kindling inter-religious strife? Because of what the president said in front of the television cameras. He said that we begin every morning by praying for Putin, for an aggressor, and for its armed forces, which is slander,” noted Anisimov.

According to him, this is incitement against the Orthodox Church and the kindling of inter-religious strife. The spokesman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church added that corpus delicti is obvious, reports RIA Novosti.

He added that “Nero’s laurels make Poroshenko restless – some persecutions here, some oppression (against the church) there”.

Earlier the SBU declared that it had carried out a search at the place of residence of the prior of the Svyato-Uspensky Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Criminal proceedings on kindling interfaith hostility were initiated by the prosecutor of the Kagarlitsky region of the Kiev region.

According to the adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Zoryan Shkiryak, the head of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra can be incriminated because he allegedly “hates everything Ukrainian”. He also called the Ukrainian Orthodox Church [Moscow Patriarchate – ed] “a segment of the destructive activity of the Russian Orthodox Church”.

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) regarded this search at the Metropolitan’s home as a coercive way of forcing him to participate in the “unifying” sobor.
