The chief representative of the European Union in Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli spoke about the near-term outlook of Ukraine concerning accession to the EU. Mingarelli noted that Ukraine doesn’t yet have any prospects of becoming a member of the European Union.
“Turkey is one of the countries that are holding negotiations on accession to the EU… Concerning Ukraine – so far there are no prospects of membership,” he said during a round table “The European choice of Ukraine after the Revolution of Dignity: opportunities and problems”.
According to Mingarelli, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is designed to promote political and economic integration.
“This is a great disappointment for our Ukrainian partners, as they would like the prospect of EU membership, but now for a number of reasons the EU can’t offer Ukraine such a prospect,” stressed the diplomat.
