The representative of the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament Laima Andrikienė stated at a press conference that the European Parliament is thinking about whether to give Ukraine the next tranche or not.
According to her, the European Parliament is now considering the offer of the European Commission on granting one billion euros as macro-financial aid to Ukraine. At the same time for this purpose Ukraine must satisfy a number of conditions in the field of reforms.
“The most important thing is the fact that combatting corruption effectively is key in carrying out reforms. Therefore the main priority is creation of the Supreme anti-corruption court according to the recommendations of the Venetian commission today,” added Andrikienė.
In the anti-corruption bodies of Ukraine a serious conflict developed between NABU and the Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s office.
The chairman of the National Anti-corruption Bureau Artem Sytnik said that he won’t cooperate with the head of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office Nazar Kholodnitsky anymore because he considers him to be a traitor. In this regard on March 30th the Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko filed a claim with the qualification-disciplinary commission of prosecutors with a request to consider the question of Kholodnitsky’s resignation. Since nobody can replace Kholodnitsky besides Lutsenko, experts consider that thus the Prosecutor General tries to put anti-corruption bodies under his control.
In addition, the authorities constantly drag out the question of creating an Anti-corruption court that, first of foremost, can strike the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and his environment.
Earlier the Verkhovna Rada refused to cancel declarations for anti-corrupt officials, which the EU strongly demanded, referring to violations by Ukraine of the recommendation of the Venice commission and also the conditions of the Association of Ukraine with the EU.
