The First “Golden” General Electric Locomotive Was Dispatched to Ukraine

The first of 30 American TE33AC locomotives from the General Electric Transportation plant was sent to Ukraine, reported the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsi”. “Today the first TE33AC locomotive from the General Electric Transportation plant in Erie, Pennsylvania, has come to Ukraine. It will proceed by railway to Norfolk, Virginia, then on a vessel across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Black Sea to Chernomorsk,” reported the acting chairman of the board of “Ukrzaliznytsi” Evgeny Kravtsov.

According to him, the final fitting of the locomotive will be carried out at the Kryukovsky car-building plant (Poltava region), and after this it will be accepted into operation and will start to transport freight.

As was reported, the framework agreement between “Ukrzaliznytsi” and General Electric provides a 15-year partnership for updating and modernising traction rolling stock, the first stage of which is the delivery to “Ukrzaliznytsi” of 30 new leased diesel GE TE33AC locomotives, with a localisation level of 10%. The total amount of the project is about $1 billion.
