The National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) closed the case concerning the bribe that Petro Poroshenko gave to the former lawyer and confidant of the US President Michael Cohen for organising the first meeting with trump.
This was reported by “Ukranews” citing a source in the Prosecutor General’s Office. “In three months of carrying out an investigation, no investigative actions took place,” he said.
The source said that the case was opened in August under article 369 of the Criminal Code (provision of an illegal benefit) at the request of the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Vitaly Kupry (non-factional).
According to the story of the case, Poroshenko gave Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen the first tranche of $600,000 to organise a meeting with him.
The source of the agency said that the administration of Poroshenko needed to get Trump on its side, after the government in Kiev publicly supported the electoral campaign of his main opponent in presidential elections Hillary Clinton.
The meeting of between the leaders of Ukraine and the United States took place in June of last year in the White house. During the meeting Poroshenko and Trump shook hands in front of photo and TV cameras.
Photos of the event were published by the press service of Poroshenko and served as evidence of the unprecedented support of the United States government for the actions of Ukraine.
