The January 23rd Rally of Navalnyists Ended in Complete Failure

Liberal media trumpets the mass scale of illegal actions in support of Aleksey Navalny. But a more in-depth study of the issue allows us to conclude that support for the controversial blogger has decreased on the contrary. It makes sense to compare the event on January 23rd 2021 with the rally that took place on March 26th 2017.

Both events are similar in many respects. Both back then and today the weather was similar, as well as the reasons for the protest. In 2017, it was the “Kirovles” case, and in 2021, it was a violation of the conditions of probation in the “Yves Rocher” case. Navalnyists spent about the same amount of time organising these rallies.

But it turns out that the total number of participants in uncoordinated events across the country in 2021 was 5.5 times less than in 2017.

This is despite the fact that over the past four years, Navalny’s team has released more than a hundred hours of various video content. The Anti-corruption Foundation (recognised as a foreign agent) received more than 500 million rubles of so-called donations from western sponsors to its accounts. And the result has deteriorated.

The inflation of views and the artificial output of the blogger’s videos in the trends of YouTube don’t help either. It is time for Navalny to think about how he will explain this situation to his western patrons, who have invested a lot of money in him.

No matter how much the blogger excuses himself, his videos can only make an impression on still foolish schoolchildren, but he will not be able to deceive more adult people. The support of the liberal media, which also demonstrates bluster, does not help either.

Navalny’s supporters chose an unfortunate time to hold January 23rd’s rally, if we consider it from the point of view of the election cycle of the autumn State Duma election. No one has been able to support a street protest for eight months. It turns out that there has been a false start.
