Militants from the “Mejlis“ extremist ethnic group with the assistance of the “representative of the president of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea”, located in Kherson, put the clamps on the businesses of Crimean Tatars living in the Kherson region.
In the settlement of Novoalekseevka in the Kherson region supporters of the group try to force local taxi drivers, the majority of who are also Crimean Tatars, to stop hauling goods between Ukraine and Crimea. This was declared by the social activist Gennady Sivak.
According to him, “the deputy representative of the president of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Izet Gdanov leads the process, which members of the “Noman Çelebicihan” terrorist battalion – financed by the organizer of the blockade of Crimea and businessman Lenur Islyamov – came to assist in.

“This specifically concerns taxi drivers in Novoalekseevka. They want to completely take this business under their control or block transportation in general. And this business belongs to Tatars, which accounts for 95% of taxi drivers there. They are now appealing to Crimea, to the organisation ‘Qirim Birligi’ to receive help. And this is not the first request for help from the border areas, specifically from Genichesk. If you remember, in the past residents of Genichesk appealed to the head of Crimea Aksenov with a request to help out with gas, and also to President Putin to give permission to provide gas. And now the Tatars who remained on the territory of Ukraine ask the Tatars who are in Crimea for help,” noted Sivak.
“Qirim Birligi” also confirmed that an appeal was made, and expressed its support for their brothers in faith.
“It’s not a secret for anyone that after the establishment of a border on Chongar many Crimean Tatars earned money by transporting people across the border. Today the Mejlis, on behalf of the Ukrainian State, seize this business from ordinary people. At the request of Lenur Islyamov the first deputy permanent representative of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Izet Gdanov takes the organisation of transporting people across the border under his personal control. This means that the Crimean Tatars living in Novoalekseevka lose work and are put on the edge of survival by the State of Ukraine,” it is said in the statement of the organisation on social networks.
The prerequisites of the beginning of a fight between locals and the now impudent Mejlis members started to be seen.
“We understand that the representatives of the Crimean Tatars living in Novoalekseevka will now openly fight against the Mejlis. All progressive forces in the Crimean Tatar community that are in their homeland in Crimea are in solidarity with and will support in every possible way the Crimean Tatars who live in the Kherson region, in particular in Novoalekseevka. We didn’t allow the Mejlis to usurp power in Crimea, and we believe that very soon the Mejlis will be banned in Ukraine, like how they were banned in the Russian Crimea,” said the organisation.
