The People of Kiev Ignored the Schismatic Constantinople “Church” Enthronement Ceremony

Translated by Ollie Richardson & Angelina Siard

On February 3rd only a few parishioners and guests attended the ceremony of the enthronement (accession to the throne) of the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Epifany at St. Sophia’s Cathedral. On this day the head of the OCU turned 40 years of age.

The ceremony took place at the liturgy in St. Sophia’s Cathedral of Kiev. Police officers and representatives of the National Guard who defend public order gathered at the area in front of the temple.

However, Sofiyskaya Square was deserted. At the entrance to the cathedral metal framework was visible. Journalists carried out their work, several dozens of passersby watched the events whilst standing on the opposite side of the road. During the period of carrying out the liturgy Vladimirskaya Street was partially blocked. Some people were allowed through according to lists.

It should be noted that meetings in honour of the creation of the OCU were earlier organised here. State employees, who the authorities passed off as “believers”, were brought to Sofiyskaya Square.
