Currently the issue of resuming direct railway lines between the Donetsk People’s Republic to the Russian Federation, in particular with Moscow and St. Petersburg, is being worked out. This was said by the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin at a meeting with participants of the educational platform for activists of the social movement “Donetsk Republic”.
“The establishment of direct railway lines to Russia is planned. Direct — meaning even without transfers – lines are planned. This is planned, in particular, with Moscow and St. Petersburg. This system is being looked at, and in the near future we will be able to already use it,” said Pushilin on September 8th.
Railway lines with Donetsk were interrupted in August 2014 after the beginning of the active phase of fighting in Donbass.
The railway station in Donetsk was considered to be one of the most modern in Ukraine. More than $120 million was spent on its reconstruction for the European Football Championship in 2012. Every day it accepted up to 35,000 passengers and more than 60 trains. In the summer of 2014 the station was repeatedly subjected to shelling.
